Kusum Kumar,M.D.,  
Professor of Pathology, Michigan State University (MSU)  

Dr Kusum Kumar joined AIIMS as a medical student in 1966. She obtained her residency training in Pathology at Cleveland Metropolitan General Hospital, and Fellowship at Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, Ohio. Dr Kumar joined MSU in 1983 as an Assistant Professor and was appointed as Professor in 1992. Dr Kumar is recognized internationally for her research on molecular pathology of brain ischemia for which she's been funded by external agencies. 

She serves as a consultant to NIH, reviewer for several journals and is on an editorial board. Besides several leading publications, she has published a CD-Rom for teaching of pathology for medical students. Plans are underway for translation of the CD Rom into various European languages to fulfill requests from that part of the world. Dr Kumar is the recipient of several excellence - in - teaching awards from year 1 students at MSU. For several years she has been actively involved in various capacities in the Michigan Assoc of Physicians from India (presently, on the Board of Directors), the India Cultural Society of Lansing (President, 1994-95), and the alumni association of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (President, 1996-98). 

She received the "Distinguished Alumnus Award" in 1992, "Distinguished Faculty Award" by the College of Human Medicine, and the "Outstanding Curricular Contributions Faculty Award" by the College of Osteopathic Medicine, MSU in 1997.
